Newington Road and Cinder Bed Road Traffic Signal now in operation

NEWINGTON – A new traffic signal at the northern intersection of Newington Road (Route 877) and Cinder Bed Road (Route 754) is now in operation, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The traffic signal is one of several improvements aimed at improving driver safety and operations, as well as pedestrian safety and mobility; the signal includes flashing yellow arrows from northbound Newington Road to the Gunston Industrial park and southbound Newington Road to Cinder Bed Road.

Drivers may still encounter weekday lane closures outside of peak travel hours in the area of the northern Newington Road and Cinder Bed Road intersection as the project moves toward final completion, which is expected by the end of the month.

Construction began in February 2025 on the $630,000 Newington Road and Cinder Bed Road intersection improvements project, which is financed with Fairfax County and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) funding.

Drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians are reminded to use caution when traveling in active work zones. Be alert to new traffic patterns and limit distractions.
