Route 704 Bridge Over I-81 in Rockingham County to Close for Repairs

STAUNTON – The Route 704 (Cecil Wampler Road) bridge over Interstate 81 in Rockingham County is scheduled to be closed for up to a week beginning Thursday night, Aug. 20, as crews make repairs related to a vehicle strike that occurred last fall.

During the closure, motorists will detour as follows:

Eastbound traffic will go north on Route 11 (Valley Pike/Main Street), east on Route 679 (Pleasant Valley Road) and then south on Early Road.
Westbound traffic will go north on Route 988 (Early Road), west on Route 679 (Pleasant Valley Road) and then south on Route 11 (Main Street/Valley Pike).

Motorists also should expect overnight single-lane closures on I-81 near mile marker 241.5 during the same time period.

All work is weather permitting, and schedules are subject to change.
