Portion of Route 40 (Sussex Drive) to close overnight for maintenance work in Sussex County
SUSSEX COUNTY — Starting overnight as early as Aug. 13, Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews will close Route 40 (Sussex Drive) at Tyus Road in Sussex County for maintenance work. The closure is scheduled to be in place from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning to allow crews to replace an underground pipe.
A signed detour will be in place directing traffic to access Route 40 via Cabin Stick Road (Route 640) and Courthouse Road (Route 626).
All work is weather- and schedule-dependent; therefore, this schedule is subject to change.
Before hitting the road, consider using VDOT's free 511 Virginia traffic tools, or the free 511-integrated Waze GPS app, to check for the most up-to-date road and travel conditions. VDOT’s 511 Virginia website and mobile app offer information about construction, traffic, incidents, and congestion, as well as access to traffic cameras, weather-related impacts and more.
