Temporary Full Closure on Portion of Rose Lane Scheduled for Paving Work as Part of Croaker Road Widening Project

JAMES CITY COUNTY — Starting as early as Friday, Aug. 14, contractor crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close a portion of Rose Lane at the entrance from Croaker Road (Route 607) for daytime paving work as part of the Croaker Road Widening Project in James City County.

Starting as early as Aug. 14, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., crews will close Rose Lane at Croaker Road to perform paving operations. The paving work is estimated to take approximately one day, weather permitting. A signed detour will be in place, directing motorists to access Rose Lane via Point O Woods Road.

Additionally, starting as early as Aug. 13., motorists may encounter intermittent daytime flagging operations on Croaker Road at The Station at Norge apartments as crews complete paving at the entrance to the complex.

All work is weather- and schedule-dependent; therefore, this schedule is subject to change.

This work is part of a $19.2 million construction contract awarded to E.J. Wade Construction, LLC, in January 2024 to add capacity and accommodate anticipated future growth along Croaker Road. Estimated for completion as early as late fall 2027, the project includes widening Croaker Road from two lanes to four lanes between Richmond Road (Route 60) and Point O Woods Road/Maxton Lane, constructing a new bridge over the CSX rail tracks, and adding a shared-use path and crosswalks along Croaker Road designed to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility.
