Gunpowder Road bridge over Route 29 two-month closure in Fairfax begins Aug. 10
FAIRFAX – Beginning around 9:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, the Gunpowder Road (Route 2953) bridge over Route 29 will be closed for approximately two months for bridge work, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Traffic will be detoured as follows:
- Drivers heading from southbound Route 29 to Gunpowder Road: Southbound Route 29, U-turn at Summit Drive/Buckleys Gate Drive (Route 1257) onto northbound Route 29, and the northbound Route 29 collector-distributor road back to Gunpowder Road.
- Drivers heading from northbound/southbound Fairfax County Parkway (Route 286) or southbound West Ox Road (Route 608) to Gunpowder Road: Southbound Route 29 collector-distributor road, southbound Route 29, U-turn at Summit Drive/Buckleys Gate Drive onto northbound Route 29, and the northbound Route 29 collector-distributor road back to Gunpowder Road.
- Drivers heading from Gunpowder Road to southbound Route 29: Northbound Route 29 collector-distributor road, crossover to southbound Route 29 collector-distributor road, and southbound Route 29 collector-distributor road back to southbound Route 29.
Drivers are asked to follow posted detour signs.
The Gunpower Road bridge is scheduled to reopen to traffic in early to mid-October.
Drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians are reminded to use caution when traveling in active work zones. Be alert to new traffic patterns and limit distractions.
